Balanced Man Scholarship Application

College Park, MD 20740
April 5, 2012
Dear Sir or Madam,
The members of Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) would like to congratulate you and your son on his acceptance to the University of Maryland. Choosing a college to attend is not easy, and we are excited to welcome your son as Maryland's newest Terp!
Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded in 1901 on the principles of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. Today, SigEp has grown to become the largest national fraternity, with over 280,000 lifetime members, including more than 14,000 undergraduates on nearly 250 campuses nationwide. SigEp has adopted the Ancient Greek philosophy of maintaining a Sound Mind and Sound Body - the belief that a body's good health was vital as it is the vessel of the mind. Thus, the Balanced Man Ideal - living a life encompassing Sound Mind and Sound Body.
Each year, SigEp awards the Balanced Man Scholarship to incoming freshmen men who exhibit academic excellence, demonstrate leadership skills, and commit to health and well-being. Supported by the Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation, SigEp maintains over 400 chapter scholarship funds and endowments used by chapters to provide over $200,000 in scholarships. The purpose of these scholarships is not exclusively to recognize those with the highest grade point averages, but rather to honor well-rounded men of the community who exemplify our Balanced Man Ideal. Applying for the Balanced Man Scholarship, however, in no way obliges your son to join the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
The Maryland Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon is proud to announce that it will be awarding a top prize of $1,000 to the recipient of the Balanced Man Scholarship at the Balanced Man Scholarship Awards Banquet on Saturday, October 6th. Over $1,000 more in scholarships and prizes will also be awarded to second and third place winners, along with other finalists. To apply for the Balanced Man Scholarship, please complete and submit the form below.
We will not consider applications submitted after Friday September 14th, 2012.

We look forward to reviewing your son's application and welcoming you and your son to Maryland in the fall. Have a pleasant and memorable summer.
Sincerely,
Joseph Percivall
